LOVE MUSKOKA ♥ SUSTAIN MUSKOKA!

Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka is now open at the Muskoka Discovery Centre—a landmark immersive exhibit exploring environmental stewardship, sustainability, and the future of the Muskoka region.

Designed to inspire both reflection and action, the exhibit asks visitors to consider what makes Muskoka so special, the environmental challenges facing the region, and what each of us can do to help protect it for generations to come.

At the heart of the experience is an impressive 16-by-9-foot LED screen, creating an immersive backdrop for powerful imagery, film, storytelling, and presentations. Visitors are introduced to the people, organizations, ideas, and initiatives working to protect Muskoka while exploring how our individual and collective choices can make a difference.

Protecting the Muskoka We Love

Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka explores key themes of Protect, Reduce, Prepare, Demonstrate and Reflect, helping visitors better understand issues including climate change, conservation, watershed health, biodiversity, sustainable living, and environmental stewardship.

The exhibit brings together science, local knowledge, community-led conservation efforts, and Indigenous perspectives. The concept of Two-Eyed Seeing encourages visitors to consider how Indigenous knowledge and Western science can work together to deepen our understanding of the natural world and how we care for it.

A highlight of the exhibit is Guardians of Muskoka, a film by Tim Johnson that brings Muskoka’s environmental story to life and introduces visitors to some of the people working to protect the region today.

More than an exhibit, Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka is a call to action—encouraging all of us to consider the role we can play in protecting the lakes, forests, wildlife, communities, and landscapes that define Muskoka.

The Next Chapter of the Muskoka Story

Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka builds on the Muskoka Discovery Centre’s major exhibit experiences:

  • Misko-Aki: Confluence of Cultures — our award-winning exhibit sharing more than 10,000 years of Indigenous history, culture, knowledge, and storytelling.
  • Evolving Muskoka: Life on the Edge of the Shield — tracing Muskoka’s social, cultural, tourism, and industrial development.
  • Wanda III: Steam to Green — exploring innovation and sustainability through the electrification of the historic 1915 yacht Wanda III.

Together, these experiences tell a broader story: where Muskoka has come from, where we are today, and where we are headed.

A Space for Our Community

The exhibit was also created to bring people together. Its large-format screen, audiovisual technology, and flexible gathering space allow Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka to serve as a venue for speaker series, films, educational programs, community conversations, special events, and collaborative presentations.

It is a place to learn, but also a place to exchange ideas, ask questions, and have meaningful conversations about Muskoka’s future.

Love Muskoka, Sustain Muskoka is now open and included with general admission to the Muskoka Discovery Centre.

We invite you to experience the exhibit, discover the stories of those working to protect Muskoka, and consider how you can be part of a more sustainable future.

Love Muskoka. Sustain Muskoka. Together, we can help protect what we love.
