MSDC Board of Directors Application
Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre (MSDC) is seeking volunteer leaders for board of director positions and committee members. MSDC has a rich history beginning in 1866, with the first steamship, and today exits to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Muskoka.
Our Mission is “To present dynamic, entertaining and educational experiences through our iconic steamships and the Muskoka Discovery Centre.”
Our Vision is “To be recognized as a leading cultural experience in Ontario where Muskoka’s history is brought to life through iconic steamship cruises and engaging educational exhibitions and programs. We strive to inspire lasting appreciation for the region’s heritage through meaningful interactive experiences.”
Our Strategic Plan 2025 – 2027 Navigating the Future click here, describes the organization’s background and specific goals and actions we will take to enhance a vibrant cultural centre in Muskoka that enriches the lives of residents and visitors alike.
Guiding this, alongside staff, is the MSDC’s volunteer Board of Directors, and five Standing committees: Executive, Fundraising, Finance, Revitalization, and Nominations, each playing a critical role in helping to steer the organization. In addition, there are several Operating Committees comprised of a mix of Board members, staff and volunteers: Reflections Magazine, Membership, Archives, Heritage Boatworks, Wanda Electrification, Love Muskoka Sustain Muskoka Exhibit, KidZone, Collections and RMS Segwun Restoration.
Candidates should have a keen desire to work collaboratively to help achieve the goals of the organization and devote the time and energy to make a contribution. There are eight board meetings per year (1 to 1.5 hours) and committee work depending on the role. Many meetings are virtual. Board appointments are made at the Annual General Meeting held in late May.
